Sheet Metal Welding is popular in dent repair, metal finishing as well as very extravagant artwork. Sheet Metal welding requires patience a lot of practice and average skill. The welding procedures used may be best determined by the specific project but may also be determined by tool available and the level of welding experience.

The three most common methods of welding sheet metal are Gas Welding, Mig Welding and Tig Welding. Of the three, TIG welding is less frequently used as TIG welders are not usually as accessible as gas and Mig Welders.

One of the advantages to gas welding is that the sheet metal is kept soft during the welding process, so a novice welder will find the material more malleable and much easier to work with. MIG welding is just the opposite; the material is harder to work with, louder and is known to shrink. The best metal welding combines the two processes to achieve the desired result. My advice is to work with a Gas Welder first to get the hang of it, and then introduce yourself slowly to the MIG welding process, testing in less visible areas. Most welding experts will gas weld as much as they can and then Mig Weld in the harder to reach places. The important thing to remember when combining these two welding procedures is to gas weld before MIG welding and never weld in the opposite order.

As weld with gas, use a small tip on your welder and be sure to have all your settings right. You don't want to try to weld with too much or too little pressure, so it's worth it to pay attention to your equipment as you weld. If you hear excessive popping, or too much noise, you need to make adjustments to your equipment.

Less experienced MIG welders tend to complain about not being able to see their work as they weld. So be sure your face mask is in good repair with clear lenses, and always work in plenty of light.

Equipment other than welders is also need to weld sheet metal safely and successfully. For safety's sake, you'll need heavy Welding Gloves. The welding gloves will protect your hands from sparks or sheet metal shards which may fly during the welding process. You'll also need a face mask specifically for welding; the best models have a light sensor attached to the mask.

Tool-wise, you'll need grinders, wire brushes, sandpaper at varying grits, vice grips, clamps, pliers with rubber grips on the handles, and sheet metal hammers. None of these items are optional. They all make sheet welding easier, and safer, and will ultimately make for a job well done.

Wheelchair modifications?

I stole a wheelchair from some homeless chick and I would like to swap it from electric to gas powered with either pull-start, or push-button start. What would be an ideal motor for such a project? I am looking at 2 strokes from wrecked bikes and small engine shops. I have TIG welded some wheelie bars I made at work and am putting a strut system for the back wheels. Anyone have experience with this? I want the next cripple who gets my wheelchair to have some attitude in this thing.

As long as you are goiing to put a gas engine on it why not do it up right? Place the engine on the rear (you will have to build the frame). Install a small 4 cyl turbo engine sideways. You will have to build a shaft from one wheel to the other then bolt on chain pullys to the crank shaft & the axle. Install the chain. If he or she doesn't get an attitude from the start ,they will from the stop.

Where Have All the War Jobs Gone?

The Iraq war has cost us all a great deal.  In terms of the taxes, we’ve paid heavily towards invading Iraq needlessly, and we continue to pay towards the ongoing war effort. In terms of the economy, we’ve paid the price thanks to NAFTA and service contract outsourcing. In terms of human lives, we’ve paid the price with our young adults. But from the wreckage of Iraq and the disaster of an invasion that took place initially, the advantages of war have been cast to foreign shores, diverting jobs from the struggling US employment market to the detriment of the economy.

The jobs arising from Iraq and the rebuilding effort could have gone to American families.  However, the North American Free Trade Agreement has meant that jobs have been diverted largely to Mexico and Canada, resulting in further damage to the US economy as a result of the campaign in Iraq. And at a time when all Americans and the economy could benefit from extra job opportunities. So who’s to blame for this economic catastrophe?

Well, controversial war author and outspoken critic of the Bush regime, Bob Miller knows exactly why this disastrous campaign has gone from bad to worse.

“Had they [impeached Bush], a million or more people, 4,000 of them young Americans, would still be alive. The Secret Service can lock me up and keep me locked up if it pleases them, but not in a thousand years could Al-Qaeda devalue our flag and dollar like Bush and his accomplices have.”

“The offices of the President and Vice President are powerless to change the character of the people voters send to occupy these offices. When you send Goering and Himmler mentality to the President and Vice President's offices, there is no reason to expect other than a Goering and Himmler administration.”

Whether or not you agree with Bob Miller’s perspective, the issue remains that the US economy has been significantly hindered by the Iraq war. Apart from the terrible loss of life and hardship that’s been caused, the American economy is charging head first into a recession while the war jobs are going elsewhere.  NAFTA or not, this is no doubt a further catastrophe in a long line of catastrophes instigated by the current George W. Bush administration.

And so the lies cast in the run-up to the Iraq war, and the unforgivable policy blunders along the way, continue with the denial of war jobs to US citizens. At a time when our economy needs all the help it can get, the needless diversion of jobs by treaty and outsourcing to foreign shores have left us feeling the moral and economic heat from our expeditions into the Middle East. With the Bush/Cheney administration on the way out, Bob Miller and fellow critics of the current administration hope to finally see beyond the worst US President in history into a new era where common sense and integrity prevail.

Very low frequency detectors generally function within 3 - 30 kHz range of frequency. This type of detector is sensitive to coins, relics and jewelry and has the ability to separate precious items from trashy items.

But unlike pulse induction detectors, the very low frequency detector is influenced by the minerals in the ground. These come with sensitivity adjustments. These are also equipped with a ground balance control. You can customize the device so as to minimize signals that are caused by vibrations produced by the underwater minerals.

Broad band spectrum underwater detectors transmit signals in multitudes of frequencies simultaneously. Broad band spectrum transmits 17 frequencies together. They range from 1.5 - 25 kHz.

You can use these underwater metal detectors while strolling along the beach, or when you are wading in water which comes up to your waist. If you are a diver, you can venture in deep seas and with these detectors, you might even locate remains of shipwreck. The chances are good that you will end up with precious, antique relics with the help of these underwater metal detectors.

Put the master volume on the Line 6 to 2 and set the Gain up to 10. THat will give a nice distortion. Other than that, get a Boss DS-1 distortion to get sustain.

why does the digital display keep resetting on a vauxhall vectra?

The display keeps resetting every time i turn the car off. The date and time keep resetting. Also when i remove the keys a audible sound for about 5 seconds as if ive left the keys in.

Check for a loose fuse in the passenger side dash mounted fuse box.
Look for the correct fuse in your handbook, remove it, which resets the Info system, and refit the fuse. It also cleans the terminals. (I'm unsure which number it is)

American Idol 7: Hollywood Week Recap

The Hollywood week of this season’s American Idol gave us some surprises. Unlike before, each of the 164 finalists was given the chance to choose to sing with or without an instrument. If they have the talent, they can pick up the guitar or play the piano. There was also no grouping of contestants this time. And second chances were offered. After their initial songs, the non-approved contestants were again asked to sing in a cappella, and the judges chose another few from them and asked them to move on to the final round, where they compete with the winners from earlier rounds. On the final round, all the aspirants were asked to sing with a band and back-up singers. Until the judges finally narrowed down their list to 50 contenders.

As always, it’s impossible to please everybody. Hollywood week’s new format had some good reactions and some bad ones. For one, viewers found the episode less exciting than the previous Hollywood weeks. But on the other hand, more talents were discovered and exposed as many chances were given to the contestants.

Among the scenes missed by the avid fans are the trio performances, the struggle of one person as he tries to squeeze himself into a group, the never-ending arguments late at nights and all those stuffs that used to be. Other viewers even found the episode boring. But the new format actually worked for some of the contestants.

Brooke White rose above others after displaying her skills in playing the keyboards. The judges were clearly impressed with her performance. Josiah Leming also got the Judges approval. This man, who lives in his car and sings with a British accent, did a rendition of Mika’s song “Grace Kelly” and immediately awed everybody, gaining him a spot in the top 50.

On the next episode of American Idol, the judges will choose 24 semi-finalists from the 50 contenders. To find out who will and will not make it, keep on watching the hit talent series.
